Donna’s Garden, oil on canvas, 40 cm x 40 cm, 2022
My art practice uses painting and drawing to explore the pictorial qualities of flowers and plants. The work is informed by my childhood memory of visiting Hong Kong Zoological and Botanical Gardens, giving vivid impressions of the gardens with their beautiful flowers, animals, and fountains. Using my photographs from the gardens as primary research, the flowers are used as a source for drawings and paintings on canvas and paper. The flower paintings are non-representational in form or color, reimagined from my unique perspective. It is a wonderful way to combine the beauty of nature with my imaginative interpretations. I try to explore new flower motifs in my paintings, to create unique and abstract representations of the natural world to my audiences.
